We are so grateful for the donation of this fantastic Hornby Train Set, given to Carol’s father by his oldest brother, Don.
Don was born in 1922, and during the Second World War he volunteered for service in the RAF, becoming a navigator on a Lancaster bomber.
He told Carol’s father that if he didn’t return from a bombing raid, then he wanted Carol’s father to have the train set for himself.
Don’s plane was shot down whilst returning from a bombing raid over Berlin on 2nd March 1943, when Carol’s father was eight years old.
Donated by Carol Legge

This train set will be on display in The House on the Hill Museum, which has over 70,000 individual toys on display ranging from humble homemade toys, Victorian toys when they were mainly only purchased by the rich to the emergence of modern technology during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
