Overhead view of Mountfitchet Castle

It has been known for many years that there is a secret tunnel going into the depths of the castle, believed to lead into the dungeons. Over the years several senior residents of Stansted Mountfitchet have told us about this tunnel. Apparently, in the 1920s, an iron gate had to placed at the tunnel’s entrance to forbid people going into it. This has since been covered with dirt and the location of the entrance has been lost in time. So this year the castle is employing a team of experts, equipped with the latest ground radar technology, to finally discover the entrance to this hidden tunnel and unearth the secrets that it may hold. If anyone has any knowledge of this tunnel the staff at Mountfitchet Castle would be grateful to learn more about it.
